Second graders ventured into uncharted territory a few weeks ago. After learning about different percussion instruments in Mrs. Braniff's music class, second graders visited the band room to see them in person! Miss Fisher and Mrs. Braniff planned this collaboration in order to expose students to the sounds of percussion played live and let them see the "real deal" versions of their classroom instruments. Students saw and heard a variety of percussion instruments, from the vibraphone and glockenspiel, to the snare and bass drums. The star of the show was the brand new timpani, which were recently acquired with a grant from the Tekamah-Herman Foundation. Students also got the opportunity to play one of the older "retiring" timpani.
Miss Fisher reminded all the second grade students that they are encouraged to join band in the fifth grade!
